Movie Intro - Nightmare

Image
This is my 3rd AICE Media Studies project and I had a blast filming this. Working with this group was a really fun experience and was a little challenging at times. It can be a bit "cringe" with the acting, but you can expect that from some highschool actors. I think with being some armature high schoolers, we did a good job producing an intro to a movie. My friends thought this movie was neat and they enjoyed watching this intro. Thank you for your time watching this, enjoy!

Meeting with Monzur for Editing

Image
Today is hopefully my last day of editing. I went over to Monzur's house to continue editing together. The very first thing I did when I arrived was to download all the clips to my computer since it was filmed on a separate device. The downloading process did not take long but, finding the right clips took a bit longer, since I had some many different shots to look through. After Finding the right clips I deleted the other clips and opened the first part of the opening sequence. After opening the first part I inserted the remaining clips and put them in the correct order. After putting the clips in the right order me and Monzur had to make sure all to turn down the sound for the clips that needed it. The reason for this was because me and my group filmed outside and the wind made it sound very bad. Monzur decided that we should find a different soundtrack for our opening sequence since he did not like the one we previously had. Me and Monzur decided that we should both look for a s...

Finishing Touches

Image
After re-shooting some of those shots, I went back to work on editing them. That was an experience of having the police show up on me filming one of my scenes and I am still shocked that happened. The police were really cool about it. I already have a pretty good foundation of film from the last time I was editing. Now, I just need to combine some of the new clips in with what I already have. Firstly, I checked over the new clips I had shot and deleted the old clips that were in the edit from last time. I sorted through the new clips and chose the best ones from the multitude of shots. After filming the last time I met with my group I have had mixed feelings about whether or not the amount of clips I have will come out to be the 2 minutes and 15 seconds. I was scared about not having enough time, but then I would calm myself down and be confident about how much I have filmed. Putting the clips together made me a little tense because the timing was coming down to the wire. Putting in th...

Re-Shooting

Image
In my blog titled "More Filming", I stated that I planned to meet up with my group on Sunday, April 3. One of the key actors, Juan, was not able to make it that Sunday, so I called off meeting because we needed him to film. I ended up scheduling for today, April 8 to film after school. It was a professional study day (PSD) at my school, so we got out a little earlier than an early release day. I planned for everyone to meet up at Monzur's house again, as that was where we were filming. I was free after school and my parents were heading out of the house so I was dropped off early at Monzur's house at around 1pm, while I planned for everyone to meet at 4pm. They could only meet at 4 because Juan needed his mom to get home from work to drive him over and Alejandro lives far away from the rest of us. Monzur and I hanged out and discussed what other scenes we needed to finish up and how to film them while waiting for the others to arrive. Alejandro showed up on time, but ...

Film Review

Image
I showed my video to one of my friends in A level AICE Media Studies. He looked over it a couple times to critique it. He said what we have so far is good. What we were missing though is the music to accompany the film. He said when we enter the music, it would add that sense of realism and add to the theme of being a thriller. He likes how in the film it is like other post-apocalyptic movies and gives the sense of a thriller. One scene he said is a little messy, the scene where the main actor gets attacked by a zombie from around the corner. He gave some feedback on how we can better this scene, being that we could have multiple camera angles of this attack and edit them together so it would capture the scene smoother. This could be another camera on the other side of the action so there could be multiple viewpoints. Other than that, he told me that music would help bring it all together and it looks good to him.

Editing the Clips

Image
Today is April 4th, 2022. This is the first part of editing the clips I filmed so far. Being the director and the editor is turning out to be really helpful. Editing is very easy to me because I have a vision in my head and I am able to bring it to life. I can make the project look almost exactly how I envisioned it in my head. Today, I had to keyframe the roof scene into the scene of Monzur running away from Juan, the zombie. The scene of Juan getting hit had to be sped up, as while filming, Monzur didn't swing the stick hard enough to portray hurting him. I didn't have the music file saved and I accidentally deleted the music. I didnt have the music file saved on my computer and so I had to go into my YouTube history and filter out the royalty free music that I viewed for the project. It wasnt that difficult finding the music I had used, but having the music along with the narration of Monzur was a difficult task.. Although challenging, a short 10 minutes, and the problem was...

More Filming

Image
After reviewing the footage taken in the last filming session, we decided that the story and filming were not that great. Instead, I decided that I was going to re-shoot some scenes and make some new ones. I first started off with discussing some plans with the story and decided that we would have a flashback to an emergency broadcast, then have the actor wake up to an alarm clock a couple weeks after living in the apocalypse. I filmed Monzur and Juan sitting on a couch watching TV and talking when all of a sudden an emergence broadcast pops up on the screen. Next, I filmed a close-up shot of Monzur's eyes of him sleeping, had an alarm clock go off, him jolt his eyes open then shut off the alarm clock. Then I had an over the shoulder shot of Monzur writing in a diary of his life in the apocalypse. I filmed him walking over to his closet where he is keeping his food rations in the apocalypse and show that the supplies are running low. Next, I filmed him packing a backpack to go on a...

Film Time!

Image
I am now back from Spring Break and have time to film. As I mentioned in my last blog, I thought I would have time with my group to film after break was over and I did. I was able to film with my group today. I met up with them at Juan's house because we figured that there were some good empty streets around him. He also has a park next to his house that people rarely go to. Because no one really goes to that park, we could get a time when there isn't anyone there, which would be perfect for our film. In the film, we want to go for a deserted world and the park without anyone there would be perfect. So, we all met at Juan's house and started filming. I was able to film through a good little bit of the film. I started off with filming the low angle of the bed and pedestal up to Monzur, who was laying in the bed. I had to reshoot this scene a couple times because Monzur would be laughing on the bed and then I would start laughing as well. Next, I filmed the alarm clock. I had...

Plans Canceled Again

Image
Today is March 17. Today, I was supposed to meet with my group to film for our final task. I had set up with them that we would meet and film today a while back, but some problems arose and we had to rearrange our filming dates. I thought everyone was free, but some members had last minute plans arise. Monzur, the actor in the film, ended up having a family trip get planned and he left today. This is the day before Spring Break, so I understand that he would have a family trip. It makes sense that he would leave today too, because his family wanted to get an early start on their vacation. It probably wasn't a good idea to schedule to film the day before Spring Break actually started because problems such as this could and did happen. Another issue that could come, being Spring Break, is that the streets could be busier, making it harder to film our "deserted street" scene. As it's Spring Break, people want to go out and travel, such as Monzur and his family, therefore...

Change to the Film

Image
Today is March 14, 2022. I had a change of plans last blog that cost us a day of filming. On that day, instead of filming, we film reviewed. I went over things about our storyboard and script. One major part we decided to change was the part where Merlin has a brother. By removing the identity of the person who knocks on the door, it then makes the film more ominous. The reason to make it such way was simple. The main story and vision I had of the film was meant to be mysterious, suspenseful, and thrilling. When not knowing who the knock came from or what it is, the character has to be jumpy and have their heart racing. This adds variety to the story because if this was an actual short movie, people would create their own theories. Another reason as to why it was removed was because it was not supposed to originally be in the story blog and was a mistake. Having this part removed also lets the actors just focus on their part and have designated parts instead of everyone trying to fill ...

Plan Cancelled

Image
We originally planned to get together today and film. Unfortunately, it rained and we decided that it would be best just to schedule to meet for a different day. Since it was raining, we wouldn't be able to film any scenes outside. I play water polo as my main sport, and games earlier in my season have gotten cancelled. They needed to be rescheduled and one of them was rescheduled to today. I didn't realize this, so that was another conflict for meeting to film. Instead, I got together over at Monzur's house with my group and discussed what we should do. I reviewed our storyboard with the group, to see if there was anything we need to touch up on. A couple of issues arrized with it. For example, near the end of our storyboard, our kid hears a knock on the door and when he opens it, it is his brother. It is his brother at last and I don't think that this part should be in the film where he meets his brother. The film might be long enough without that part, but it is good...

Nightmare Production

Image
My film, Nightmare, takes place in a post apocalyptic era. A boy wakes up to a world where nothing is just quite right and everything is a nightmare. The setting is eerie and suspenseful, so I decided to go for a theme that is considered gloomy. I am not talented enough, nor are my group mates to make our own music for the movie scene, so I decided to look at movies or TV shows that already have sound tracks for something like ours. One TV show that is very popular with the genre I have is The Walking Dead. This TV show has something special that has helped contribute to why it has such a long run time. The different soundtracks for different scenes are perfect for my movie. I emailed the composer Bear McCreary a while back, but I still haven't gotten a response from him. Although I have not heard back from him, I still have other options for music that is copyright free. I looked at other movies theme songs, such as the one from 28 Days Later. I have found that the use of great di...

What Its Going to Look Like

Image
We have 3 types of titles for our credits: names (includes the producer companies). the title, and dates. Names- Font:   The font we will be using is "Chiller" we find this font good since it gives the text a sort of creepy vibe which is good to build up suspense  Size and Color:  The size is going to be 55 it will be easy to read but not big enough to block anything. The color most likely will be red since it will look like blood or white so it will be easy to read since most of the scenes will be dark. The name of the companies will be a bigger size of 85 since the names of companies are usually larger. Transitions and Location:  The text transitions we will be using is "Random Bars" this makes the words appear in the scree through well random bars. The titles will be placed in the corners of the screen while the companies names will be placed at the top or middle of the screen. Time:  The titles will appear one at a time and will be shown for 3 to 5 seconds e...
