Final Product

Here is my commercial. I had some trouble with my partner getting the commercial emailed to me, but here it is. I hope you are able to open it... enjoy.

Creative Critical Reflection

  1.       How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?       My product uses regular conventions because it is a sport commercial, so we used the upbeat music with athletic clothes and action. It represents the athletic group because it pertains to sports and in the commercial, I have the actor hitting a ball, which shows that they are in action playing the sport. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?   My product engages the audience by showing that you can use this product in a game, or while                   practicing by yourself, it’s up to them. My commercial would be distributed on the MLB network, along with Dick’s Sporting Goods ads. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?   I was able to do camera tricks that I have never tried before and this allowed me to see the possibilities that I have available to me. How did you integrate techn

Continuing Edits

The second day I finished filming, I was able to start finishing the second part of editing. I had just needed the end scene put in the commercial to have all of the content. The end scene had about 8 different videos to chose from. I ended up picking the 17 second video. This was to ensure that I could reach the 30 second mark, but not go over. With the 17 seconds, I was overall at 31 seconds. This wasn't good as if it was over, it wouldn't be accepted. With this, I had to speed up the video by 120 percent. I also had to cut out a couple milliseconds here and there between transitions to drop that time by fractions. I downloaded the music clip and put it in the commercial. I also edited the saturation on it to make it look more dramatic. When I was editing I came across some problems. When I tried downloading the clips my GoPro wouldn't let me put them into my computer. I ended up going on YouTube and found videos on how to upload them. I found a video that showed me how

Begin Editing

My partner and I filmed for 2 class periods, but the second day was cut short because of a PSD. After I finished filming, I went home and uploaded the files to my computer. In an earlier blog, I stated that I didn't take that many shots, but there were about 150 files. I did not realize I took that many videos. It took quite a while to download all of those files, but luckily they were small, so it wouldn't take me too long to sift through. I put all of the clips on Adobe Premier. The editing process was very tedious. I was having to delete many of those 150 clips and merge them. My partner and I had previously went through audio clips to find the right song to overlay in the video. I found one and put it in the commercial. I also had to find the transitions that fit best with our vision and to make it look sporty and clean. So, the first night I edited, I put the best of the clips together and it was not that pretty. The transitions looked awful and eventually got it to look

End Scene Film

Today, October 7, I went out to the baseball field with my partner again. This time, I was there to redo one scene. I was also there to shoot the end scene of my partner walking away with the bat on his shoulder. In the classroom, before I left to record, I got tape and re-taped a stick that I made for filming. It's a piece of wood with a GoPro mount on the end. I had to redo the tape so the mount wouldn't fall off. Today was a PSD day, so I only had about 30 minutes to record those scenes. I went to the dugout and put the same clothes I wore last production day. My partner had his clothes folded, ready to go, on his bed, but his mom took them and put them in the wash, so he didn't have them. This meant that I had to be the one in the end scene. I figured it wouldn't make sense if I were the one stepping up to the plate in the scene we had to redo, so we are just going to keep that already shot scene in. I got the bat we used and a couple baseballs to hit. My partner th

Today, October 5, I finally able to record for the first time. I could have recorded on September 29, but my partner had to go to the doctor to check on his broken ribs. Then, on October 1, my partner was not at school again because he got contact traced. That day, the whole school was also on a code yellow, so we could not film on that day anyway. So, today I was really excited to film as my partner was present and the weather was really nice for filming. Him and I walked out to the baseball field and it was locked, so my partner jumped the fence to get his bat from the dugout. He came back and we then walked over to the storage container to get some baseballs as one of our props. We got our baseballs, walked to the field, and saw that one of the gates was actually open for the field. We walked over to the dugout and dropped our backpacks off and got our camera ready. I changed the setting of our GoPro to 1080p at 60fps so it would look smooth. We then started to practice the beginnin
